About Me
Emily Baker, Ph.D., LPCC-S
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
My name is Emily (she/her), and I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Supervisor (LPCC-S) in the state of Ohio (E.2101580-SUPV). I care deeply about accessibility, mental health, and social justice, and have spent much of my life working to understand and support myself and those around me.
I obtained my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of Cincinnati in 2018 and my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from The Ohio State University in 2021. I spent several of my early career years in postdoctoral and research positions, where I directed research in prescription drug misuse, substance misuse prevention programming, and harm reduction. Currently, I teach graduate-level counselor education courses and provide research and evaluation for grant-based projects.
As a clinician, I have completed additional training in various evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing, and Harm Reduction Psychotherapy. I previously have worked in inpatient, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings, where I have worked with adults, children and adolescents, couples, families, and groups. I enjoy using a strengths-based, humanistic approach that incorporates humor, mindfulness, and open feedback.
My primary clinical specialities are anxiety, depression, substance misuse or addiction, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, and grief.
I value adventure, travel, and play. I have a zest for life that I found after addressing my own mental health concerns and finding safety in my own body. I hope that I can support you in your personal growth journey, whatever that may look like for you.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
— Carl Rogers
